Lithuania’s second largest city, Kaunas, is becoming famous for its amazing civic Christmas decorations. This year, the city's artists have contributed a beautiful and extraordinary Christmas tree that looks like it's made of clouds. The artists are continuing their tradition of building creative structures – last year they created an impressive knitted Christmas tree, and the year before that their design was made from 32,000 plastic bottles.
For the 2014 tree, the artists of Kaunas came up with the idea of building a cloud-like structure with twelve angels sitting within it, speaking to the public below. They are meant to tell visitors what they see from up above. The artists say of their design, “This year, it will be a fir full of clouds. It will have twelve angels who will sit there and speak from the top about what they see from up there.” The entire structure looks like it’s about to simply float away.
Before the celebration to launch what is known as the Cloud Trail tree, the Town Hall Square and the surrounding streets will be limited to car traffic, and the citizens of Kaunas will have to take public transport in order to reach the festival.
