When Madrid-based musician Gonzalo García Calvo isn't making sweet music, he spends his time artfully folding intricate origami animals. The talented origami enthusiast uses a variety of different techniques and papers to fold his impressive collection of animals, objects, and even a few sci-fi figures.
The miniature folded figurines are inspired by the designs of top origami artists, but the intricate hand work is all Gonzalo. Carefully folding the designs out of one single piece of paper, he painstakingly brings incredible animals and beloved characters like Yoda to life.
Most of his elaborate paper folds are made from the commonly-used unryu paper or leather paper. To get a second tone to the forms, the artist glues colored silk to the other side of the paper, which allows the artist to stay true to the basic one sheet principle of orgami.
