Normally, we’d advise against wearing sandals that look like this, but there’s a reason why some of the smartest people in America are excited about it. NASA is using these modified sandals, dubbed Force Shoes, to learn more about the forces put on the astronauts while in zero gravity in space. The orthotic sandals are equipped with sensors to determine the impact of the workouts astronauts do to maintain muscle and bone health while in orbit.
