We love objects that are interactive, move and change shape as if they were alive. An expert on the matter, designer Tim van Cromvoirt created a mesmerizing series of lamps called Lungplants. These glowing, billowing forms appear to breathe, simply by pumping air in and out their “mouths”.

Like true organisms, the Lungplants keep themselves lit by just inhaling in and out. This repetitive process generates energy and when they grow so big that they can no longer lift their own weight, they eventually deflate and start the process over again. The lamps come in groups consisting of a mother Lungplant that feeds the other glowing creatures.
