Little Field of Flowers, Tord Boontje, Nanimarquina, sustainable rug design, eco-friendly rug, green carpet, sustainable carpet, sustainable rug, fair trade [1]

The recent collaboration between star Dutch designer Tord Boontje [2] and the uber-hip Spanish rug company Nanimarquina [3] is truly a great combination- like chocolate and mint, or peanut butter and jelly. The two independently-fabulous design entities have joined forces to create the playfully genius Little Field Of Flowers [4] rug, whose floral shaggy tendrils are just as endearing as they are warm and fuzzy under your bare toes.

Available in shades of purple, red, or green, the hand-loomed wool rug combines Tord Boontje’s [5] engaging aesthetic and shrewd design sensibility with Nanimarquina’s [4] commitment to unique, high-quality, handmade rugs. The result is a wonderful synthesis between two like-minded designers, who not only produce provocative objects, but use ethical business practices and well-selected materials to do so.

Tord Boontje [2] has wowed us before with his recycled Transglass vessels and the Midsummer Light. His design “draws from a belief that modernism does not mean minimalism, that contemporary does not forsake tradition, and that technology does not abandon people and senses.” Nanimarquina [3], the Barcelona-based company known for richly-colored hand-tufted, loomed, and knotted rugs, has used green materials such as recycled bicycle inner tubes, and employs fair and just labor practices in all its manufacturing processes. Talk about a great duo.
