Inspired and mentored by William McDonough and a cadre of deep, but optimistic, environmental thinkers, Zem Joaquin has developed a lens that makes it impossible to view products as she once did. In one way or another she has always worked in design, whether it was as a critic or promoter. Joaquin believes the time has come to reinvent the way we think about design. As a board member of Global Green, Healthy Child Healthy World, and Teens Turning Green, Joaquin has access to the latest and greatest information about green innovations. She’s certified by Build It Green as a green-building professional and applies this knowledge in her eco-consultancy business, on television and radio spots and, most emphatically, on Ecofabulous.
DARREN MOORE, Host of Alter Eco
TV personality and renowned eco-adventurer, aka the “Eco-Macgyver”, Darren Moore starred alongside Adrian Grenier and Angela Lindvall in the Planet Green series, Alter Eco. Darren is the founder of Ecovations, an Eco-LOGICAL Renovation Company and General Contracting Firm, where he specializes in the creation and renovation of new and existing buildings to create energy and resource efficient, healthy, and aesthetically inspiring structures in an environmentally friendly way. Darren has traveled the world to learn and preserve time honored techniques of eco- building and environmentally responsible lifestyle choices to incorporate them into his business and daily life.
MEAGHAN O’NEILL, Treehugger
Meaghan O’Neill is editor-in-chief of Discovery Communications’ environmental news and culture site TreeHugger.com, which she first joined as head writer when it launched in 2004, and Parentables.com, a tell-it-like-it-is blog about the modern state of parenthood. She has also worked as editor of PlanetGreen.com, a freelance journalist, managing editor of Boston Magazine, contributing editor at Design New England, researcher-reporter at Interior Design, and assistant editor at Yahoo! Internet Life. Her first book, Ready, Set, Green: Eight Weeks to Modern Eco-Living, was published in 2008, and her eight-part series “The Slate Green Challenge” for Slate.com was a National Magazine Award finalist in 2007. She has contributed to a diversity of publications including Men’s Journal, The Boston Globe Magazine, I.D., ReadyMade, Glamour, and Teen Vogue, among others; has spoken at events, businesses, and schools across the country; and has made dozens of national and local radio and television appearances. She lives in Newport, Rhode Island with her husband and son.
RENÉE LOUX, Green Expert & Author
Renée Loux has been involved in the environmental movement and sustainable food movement for more than a dozen years. She’s an author, television personality, chef, restaurateur, raw food expert, and monthly columnist for Women’s Health Magazine. Renée has four published books, The Whole Green Catalog, Easy Green Living, the Gourmand Award-winning The Balanced Plate, and Living Cuisine. She is the host of It’s Easy Being Green for the Scripps Network, and appears as a frequent green-expert TV guest on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Extra, Insider Edition, and Fox News.
JILL FEHRENBACHER, Inhabitat
Jill Fehrenbacher is the founder of Inhabitat.com, as well as a freelance designer and green design consultant. She created Inhabitat in the Spring of 2005 as a way to catalog her ongoing search for new ways to improve the world through forward-thinking, high-tech, and environmentally conscious design. Educated at Brown University, where she received a B.A. in Art Semiotics, and Columbia University, where she studied architecture, she currently resides in New York City, which so far has aligned nicely with her goals to escape the suburbs and live life car-free.
MIKE CHINO, Inhabitat
Mike is the Managing Editor for Inhabitat. He is a writer, researcher, and musician based in San Francisco. He left sunny UC Santa Cruz with a B.A. in French and Modern literature and delved into publishing through a stint at ReadyMade Magazine. Inspired by the impact that forward thinking can have on the present, he has cultivated a voracious appetite for developments in sustainable architecture, design, and technology. Mike likes to bike, blog, and build things, and in his spare time he also cooks, produces music, and rocks out.
JASMIN MALIK CHUA, Ecouterre
A 14-year veteran of the publishing industry, Jasmin is the Managing Editor of Ecouterre. She has an M.S. in biomedical journalism from New York University—she was a founding fellow of the literary reportage program—and a B.S. in animal biology from the National University of Singapore. In addition to stories published in online and print publications like Alive, Plenty, The Huffington Post, and Sprig, Jasmin has been quoted as a green expert by such publications and outlets as The New York Times, BBC Radio, BusinessWeek, Newsweek, and People. Jasmin was previously a copy editor for Computer Shopper and PRINT. (She still reads style guides for fun.)
ADAM SCHWARTZ, Inhabitat
Adam is a serial entrepreneur whose background includes business development, media communications via social media & traditional PR and web product management. He has co-founded two start-ups, theeastend.net, a social networking community for the hamptons and most recently source4style.com. He’s also worked as a social media and business development consultant for a wide range of brands, personalities and tech start-ups including Lending Tree, Billshrink, textPlus, Adility, The Infrastructurist, Solvate and Summer Rayne Oakes. Adam also serves as the internship and special programs director for The New York Tech Meetup, the worlds largest internet industry non-profit.
