Diogo Aguiar told Dezeen that the commission for an eco-resort aroused a strong sense of responsibility given that it would be placed in one of Portugal’s most precious parks. This is why the team opted to design seven little cabins placed delicately between the trees instead of one large volume.
Three modular designs are reconfigured in different ways depending on each cabin’s position. They each sit up on stilts, which helps to reduce the environmental footprint and adjust for uneven topography, and are clad in striking grey slate tiles that mesh with the region’s vernacular architecture. Wooden slats surround the balconies that ensconce visitors in the verdant forest surroundings, creating an unparalleled eco-spa experience.

A tranquil new eco-resort has sprung up between the trees in one of Portugal’s most pristine natural parks – Parque de Pedras Salgadas. Designed as a collaborative effort between Luís Rebelo de Andrade and Diogo Aguiar, the park is comprised of seven prefabricated cabins carefully arranged to have the smallest environmental impact. Located just outside the spa-town of Pedras Salgadas, this lovely resort fosters an intimate relationship between visitors and nature.
