TRANSPORTATION TUESDAY: Carectomy.com

carectomy, ecogeek, car, transportation, mass transit, website, green transportation, no cars, transportation tuesday, fewer cars

As evidenced by our recent Transportation Tuesday greener car posts, we’re all for the greening of the automobile. But the greenest car is the one that doesn’t exist. That’s the idea behind Carectomy.com, a blog with the goal of “removing cars from people.”

Carectomy takes a unique approach to making our auto-focused world more sustainable: What if there were no cars on our cities? Not to say that cars shouldn’t exist, but rather, Carectomy is changing the focus from an autocentric point of view to one which works without it. So if you have a car dependency, or can’t afford the newer greener cars on the market, or just want to go car-free, check them out.

Wannabe social engineers scare me. I can’t get visions of Big Brother out of my head now…

“Big Brother”, Chris? A little math and pro-density/mixed-use urbanism doesn’t even come close to that. Actually read some of the articles on their site – not much in the way of groundbreaking concepts there.

Usually the articles on this site are positive and about making things objectively better from a design standpoint. “Carectomy” is a clear example of the attempted hijacking of environmental concerns to push a social agenda.

I heard on the great Jeff Rense program(rense.com),the erudite talk show host recount that up until 1953 there was throughout the usa a extensive and highly EFFICIENT public transport system in most of the major centers.According to Rense these system delivered a service that what so thorough, practical and cheap that most people even if they had the means wouldn’t have anything to do with a car.Than in 1953 the rubber and oil company scumbags got together and bought equally dirty and corrupt politician to under fund and dismantle the public transport system, to the unappealing state in witch it is today.Only those whom are oblige use public transport ,the moment a person can rub 2 nickels together, the first thing they do is to get a car with all the b.s.,headache and cost they must endure.IN SPITE OF THAT IT SURE BEAT TAKING A BUS OR SUBWAY ANYTIME!!!
