The Tesla roadster is the one being sold. I think they may have sold more than 300 though. I think it’s actually more than 400 now. A smart move to design a flash sports car first… and one that out performs Ferrari’s at that !
Yes… people will pay $90K for an electric sportscar that out performs Ferraris.

Establish the beach head that way… then come out with the ‘everyday’ car afterwards. Smart moves.

The Fetish, despite its headstart unveiling a prototype in LA, failed to secure beach front in Hollywood to capitalize on the growing EV craze… something which wasn’t lost on the folks at Tesla, who saw an opportunity and went for green gold. The Tesla also secured better components, to deliver better performance for less money that Venturi could offer. Venturi didn’t understand the importance of captivating the general public’s imagination with the vehicle… aiming too deep inside the affluent target base… not able to brand the Fetish “sexy”… refusing photo shoots with fashion and men’s magazines, which is the kiss of death in a luxury automobile market that prides itself on such associations.

The Fetish is a great name… but rather than embrace it’s double entendre, reach out to fetish magazines like Skin Two, Marquis and Secret… they let the opportunity slip away… While Tesla, well briefed on Tesla’s cult of personality and urban legends of energy technology suppression, adequately milked the Nikola Tesla community for blind admiration and free viral marketing support, cheering the underdog… elevating the Tesla roadster to hero status!

Tesla has sold over 300 vehicles, mostly in the Los Angeles and Bay area… to Internet billionaires and entertainment professionals who saw in the Tesla an investment for the future, a rEVolution, much like first adopters bought the Prius. The company is installing rapid chargers at key locations… Vegas, Reno, Tahoe… making road trips to these resorts comfortable. All these other models are over produced concept vehicles with no foundation in reality. It’s pretty much an accepted fait accompli in the automobile industry that batteries enabling 300 miles and more per charge are just around the corner, and that the need for internal combustion is quickly coming to an end. Sadly mainstream automobile companies are still desperately clinging to the notion that liquid fuels are going to last forever.

Hybrids were training wheels for the masses… they introduced electric drive train technology into the economy. Now we’re simply going to throw the piston engine into the scrap heap of history, because it’s twice the index of complexity, and it’s no longer required for civilian transport. That’s the thing GM, Ford, Chrysler need to accept… German and Asian companies also, until they do, they will drag the ball and chain of global warming efforts, perpetuating a mistake that may doom us all.

Now if only it was going to be a Plug-In Hybrid like the Chevy Volt (which I think looks ugly and will probably never be produced as its from GM, and they will lose intrest in Green Cars as soon as SUV sales pick up)
