A team of industrial design students at the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey, has developed an ingenious design for a bipartite, or two-compartment, waterless dishwasher that is wall-mounted and doubles as a kitchen cabinet. Called dualWash, the dishwasher uses supercritical carbon dioxide for cleaning rather than water.
dualWash appeared on several gadget-oriented web sites over the past few days, starting with a post on the industrial design blog Tuvie. On some sites, dualWash was presented as if it were a product being offered by BSH Home Appliances Corporation, a subsidiary of Bosch and Siemens. However, I believe dualWash to be a product concept developed by METU industrial design students Halit Sancar, Nagihan Tuna, Pınar Şimşek, and Gökçe Altun as part of a “Home Heroes” program sponsored by BSH’s Turkish brand Profilo. In reality, dualWash is only one of a number of fascinating design projects developed for Home Heroes by METU students.
