Turn Your Cremated Remains into Live Ammunition with Holy Smoke
With all the talk these days about the destructive and toxic nature of modern day burials, sustainable ways to honor your deceased loved ones are popping up left and right. Now with the help of Holy Smoke, an Alabama-based company started by Clem Parnell and Thad Holmes, you can turn your loved one’s ashes into live ammunition and honor them with a bang. The founders actually started the company partially because of personal issues with the ecological costs of burials and are offering their services for just $850 — plus shipping and handling.
The company was conceived of one night while Parnell and Holmes were on the job — they are both state law enforcement officers. The two were discussing what they’d like done with their remains after they are gone. During the conversation one of the gents piped up that he’d “thought about this for some time and I want to be cremated. Then I want my ashes put into some turkey load shotgun shells and have someone that knows how to turkey hunt use the shotgun shells with my ashes to shoot a turkey. That way I will rest in peace knowing that the last thing that one turkey will see is me, screaming at him at about 900 feet per second.” Let’s just hope he’s planning on having his family eat that turkey after they take it down.
The company believes that their service is a cost effective tribute to your loved one. For the shotgun or pistol enthusiast your order comes with 250 shells and for the rifle enthusiast you can get 100 shells. The company only uses ammunition loaders and reloaders that are officially permitted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, offers discounts to active duty and retired military, law enforcement and fire fighters and offers pre-arrangement pricing. Though we still don’t like the idea of guns very much — unless they’ve been turned into tree planting shovels — we believe the folks at Holy Smoke when they say that this is a “tribute to your outdoorsman or woman like no other.”
