We absolutely love hearing about design that transforms lives. This beautiful Lilypad House in Sydney by Jorge Hrdina Architects has given its wheelchair-bound owner a calm new lease on life. Not only is the sweeping day-lit home easy to navigate, but it is also encircles a sunny courtyard that places nature on the center stage.
The two lilypad portals are freestanding structures placed on either end of the home. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, they also provide support to the remainder of the decidedly minimalist house. And unlike its humdrum neighbors, the one-of-a-kind lilypad home has low walls and a giant courtyard that emphasizes the feeling of being close to nature. This is further achieved with the courtyard’s extension of a small park that lies opposite the property. This is not the first time we’ve featured a project that evokes the gentle calm of a floating lilypad: check out the LILYPAD: Floating City for Climate Change Refugees for another example.
