Reslistically:

-No reasonable number of twirls is going to recoup you the extra power that could've been stored conventionally if the space taken up by the dynamo and twirling gap had just had a couple of extra cells in them.

-Incorporating the manufacture of an entirely different class of parts into a product seems likely to make the production of such a battery less green overall, especially considering nobody is going to generate more than 0.1% of their own power with one of these things.

Neat idea, but not practical I think. It looks as if you loose about 1/2 the space that could otherwise be occupied for bigger cells, that will last much longer in the first place. Also, the phone will have to be turned off, take battery out, but back in, turn on (lots of power used to power the phone back up) and then used for some time. How about integrating this into the phone and not the battery. You can probably integrate small PV or even a kinetic charger (with a shaking motion, or like the old watches) directly into the phone. You'll be able to charge the phone while it's still one, or while in everyday regular use (in case of the PV even when it is just sitting there).

Just my few pennies :-)

Cheers, Hans

Seems a bit unwieldy -- what's to stop it from twirling off the top of your finger?

This is such a great invention and I am sure there will be many more users for it.

My son has a flashlight that works similar to this, you shake it to power it up, it also lasts for quite a long time with just a few shakes.

Regards,
Lee

That's cool, but seems like a lot of work just to get 2 more minutes of talk time. I wonder if there's a way for a battery to get extra charge by absorbing movement as the phone is used, or even by somehow absorbing energy from the sound waves as people talk....?

What an ingenious idea, especially for those of us sitting at a desk all day. Charge and have fun! Love it.
