Gallery: Code Black Coffee: Two Melbourne Warehouses Merge to Create In...

The administrative spaces are hidden from view, but otherwise the cafe is defined by a long and open aesthetic

Dark and moody, Code Black Coffee is an open space defined by rough steel framing, polished concrete floors, natural Oriented Strand Board walls, and black-painted brick. The original warehouse windows were left intact to bring in a smidgeon of natural light, while the rest of the mixed-use space is illuminated with funky yellow light bulbs.

Instead of building anew in an already saturated urban landscape, Cafenatics Operations opted for a sustainable renovation that preserves two previously abandoned warehouses. Both an office and a cafe for the public, Code Black Coffee maintains an open aesthetic, though the administrative programs are mostly hidden from view, and a unique ambience that is completely complimentary of coffee-drinking culture.
