One of the best new things I saw at BKLYN Designs [2] over the weekend was Uhuru Design’s [3] Stoolen chair [4]. Reminiscent of a tree stump, this awesome cylindrical seat is actually composed of recycled wood scraps held in shape by a pressurized aluminum bicycle rim (also recycled of course). The whole chair is 100% recycled – and manages to be as beautiful and evocative as it is environmentally friendly.

The Stoolen is available in a couple different sizes and types of wood.

The Brooklyn-based design duo makes several other cool items as well, such as this gorgeous Puzzle Table [6]– which is a similar scrap-walnut composition as the Stoolen Chair, and this lovely screen-printed Bird Table [7]:

Uhuru is a design + build furniture company based in Red Hook, Brooklyn, that emphasizes multidisciplinary work, sustainability and responsible environmental practice. For prices, contact the designers directly.
