You know we’re big fans of recycling, but this Fourth of July, doesn’t it just seem like more fun to be able to tell your guests to throw their used plates and cups into the bushes instead of a recycling bin? Well okay, you probably don’t want litter on your lawn, so that first scenario might be a bit extreme. But with Branch’s brand new Biodegradable Party Kit, you’ll have everything you need for an eco-friendly fete without any of the hassle.

The Party Kit is serves 50 guests and includes:

7-inch Plates (pack of 50)
9-inch Plates (pack of 50)
16 oz. Soup Bowls (pack of 50)
12 in. Oval Platters (pack of 10)
Biodegradable Forks, Knives, & Spoons (50 of each)
Your Choice of Cups (pack of 50)
Recycled-Paper Napkins (pack of 100)
Biodegradable Waste Bags (pack of 3)

All of the plates, cups and bowls are made from 100% sugar cane fiber (bagasse), a byproduct of the sugar refining process. The use of bagasse products eliminates the dependence of traditional wood fiber-based materials in disposable tableware and since bagasse is traditionally burned for disposal, the diversion of the fiber into the making of tableware prevents harmful air pollution. The utensils are formed of potato starch and the napkins are recycled. Everything is 100% biodegradable!

are these products compostable in standard food compost or do they need to go to a composting center?

Or you could actually use real plates and silverware and wash them.
