If you’re a smartphone junkie, you know what a pain it is when your data-hungry cell runs out of juice. Recently Umeox unveiled an Android smartphone at the Mobile World Congress that could solve the power problem once and for all, thanks to an array of solar panels emblazoned on its back. The Apollo Android phone that is on its way to becoming the first solar phone to make it into mass production for sale worldwide.

The Apollo features a 3.2″ 320×480 display, 1GB of storage, a microSD card slot, FM radio, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, a 3 megapixel rear camera and a 3.5mm audio jack, so you can rest assured you’ll be getting a phone with all the frills for texting, picture taking and much more. And while we can’t really commend the charge time (It will take 17 hours in the sun to get this puppy to 100%), we are definitely stoked that we may finally see a solar phone hit store shelves in just a few months!

this looks fantastic, i hope they have color options to keep it a but sober. but hey, this is not the first solar phone for sure. i’ve checked out the Samsung Solar Guru here in India which seemed pretty awesome, lightweight and darn reasonable in terms of price (Rs. 3,000 or so – roughly $60)!
