Gallery: US Added 6,700 Turbines in 2012 to Boost Wind Capacity by 28%


Renewable energy is on the rise in the US as new solar projects pop up across the country and thousands of new wind turbines are built every year. According to a recent report from the American Wind Energy Association, wind energy grew 28-percent in the US during 2012 – and it now accounts for 42-percent of all new US electricity generating capacity. Over 6,700 wind turbines were built across the US in 2012, bringing the nation’s total up to 45,100. That’s enough wind energy to power over 15 million homes, according to the AWEA.
