Even though reusable tote bags are touted as being more eco friendly than plastic bags, the rate at which they’re being given out (at least one and sometimes two at every single event we’ve been to this year), seems a bit counter-productive. What is one supposed to do with 20 organic cotton bags? Well, the best answer would be to refrain from taking them in the first place – but if you find shunning free schwag to be difficult, check out this cool solution we spotted on NOTCOT. All you have to do is take some old throw pillow inserts you might have lying around, or even some other form of stuffing like old clothes will do, and use them to fill your bags up. Then tuck the handles behind each pillow and voila, you’ve got awesome, graphic cushions to adorn a plain sofa or futon.

If you run out of room for tote pillows, there are a couple of other create ways to put them to use. Foster children and people in shelters very often do not have anything other than a grocery bag to carry around belongings. You can donate the good bags to your local Department of Human Services (DHS) who will pass them along. Even better, if you find you have collected to many little bottles of shampoo, you can include them in the bags. Toiletries are welcomed items for many people who are barely getting by.
