Venturi Unveils America Concept EV at the Detroit Auto Show

We've seen some really awesome ^[6] sustainable sports cars ^[7] unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show ^[8] this week, and yesterday, the French EV specialists, Venturi ^[9], added to the list with the electric Venturi America ^[10]. The concept EV ^[11] blends an electric sports car with an all-terrain vehicle, resulting in a cool, Pixar-esque, sporty buggy. Click through for details and exclusive pictures!

The America ^[10] runs on an electric powertrain and a rear mounted motor that generates more than 300 horsepower — the same motor in the Venturi Fetish ^[12], the world’s first production electric sports car. The company says the machinery is the “most advanced electric motor ever designed for an automobile.” The 54-kWh lithium-ion batteries provide a range of up to 190 miles at a stabilized speed of 56 mph.

The vehicle’s introduction celebrates the Monaco-based company’s opening of a North American division in Columbus, Ohio. The company currently works with Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research ^[13], and they plan to deepen their collaboration with the development of new electric car components.

Currently, Venturi ^[9] has no real plans for production of the EV ^[11] America buggy, but we certainly hope they change their minds!
