This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen videos of the Tesla Model X on the road, but this is the first time we’ve seen it this close. YouTube user nbkagzw13 recently caught a prototype of the Tesla Model X SUV driving on a freeway in Palo Alto, California. He called the electric car “sick” before the slick white SUV pulled ahead of him on the road.
Tesla originally planned to release the Model X electric SUV in 2013, but several delays have pushed the launch to the third quarter of 2015. Now that we’re seeing more prototypes driving on public roads, we hope that means that Tesla is getting closer to kicking off production.
Even though many parts of the Model X are covered in the video, we can see the SUVs shape and how much it resembles the Model S sedan. In a bit of bad news, Tesla’s shares have fallen thanks to a downgrade from brokerage firm CLSA. The firm feels that the Model X SUV will have lower profit margins than expected. CEO Elon Musk responded by stating that he expects Model X production to ramp up significantly in 2016, with Tesla hoping to sell up to 50,000 units.
