Gallery: Vinella & Krupa Give New Life to Dated Furniture With Painting...

They decorate all sorts of stuff, including this wooden desk made in the Ewardian mahogany style (1901-1910).

Marcin and Federica are based in Edinburgh, and they enjoy giving new life to old furniture through pyrography and painting. They love taking inspiration from Art Nouveau pieces and have painted Klimt’s “Sleeping lady” on a low coffee table.

Another table found in a swap shop now features Edinburgh’s landscape under a pale blue sky. Alice in Wonderland is another reference for the creative couple – they have embellished a chair with scenes from Lewis Carroll’s novel.

When Marcin and Federica are not busy giving a bright new life to old furniture they can be found at Edinburgh’s Art’S Complex, where they teach courses on how to upcycle, decorate and reclaim old beloved furnishings.

I am curious about woodburning (pyrographics) on older wood pieces like these desks and chairs. Do you have to remove all the old finish? What are the safety concerns. I cannot find any information online. I love to hear from you.
