Vo Trong Nghia Architects to Build Vertical Forest Office Building in Vietnam
The Trees Building will be a branch office of ABBANK, and it promises to be one of the most striking new buildings in Danang. Because of the terraced system, Vo Trong Nghia will be able to fit at least 150 percent more trees into the facade of the building than would be able to grow on a comparable piece of flat land, and the trees are more visible to visitors than if they were only located on the roof. The trees will be framed by the building’s windows, with one tree standing in front of each large window. A much denser cluster of trees will grow on the vegetated roof.
This isn’t the first time Vo Trong Nghia Architects has integrated living plants into the facade of a building. The firm has received accolades for ‘Stacking Green,’ a tall and narrow building in Saigon that features rows of stacked planters that overflow with dense vegetation, which was completed last year. The building’s facade will feature rows of double-height columns, which will serve both as load-bearing columns, and they’ll also provide a place in which to plant large trees. The building hasn’t been built yet, but construction is expected to begin later this year.
