Germany is about 80% the size of california, but with 82Million people living here it&#039;s really hard to drive 5 miles without seeing a house,  and people are not really keen on having a 100metre (300foot)  high towers in front of their window (plus windpower is loud) which often ends in some confrontations. There are also environmental groups who try to block wind power projects because a storch has its nest 10 miles away...
It&#039;s actually a wonder we got this much wind power.
Sea based wind power is also problematic as it is not allowed to build near the coast (nature reservat wattenmeer), forcing wind parks 30 miles and more off the coast, which is of course expensive because of water depth)</description>
