The NE, small-picture, condensed layout

Dear readers,

We hope you notice that we’re always tinkering with our website to try to make it the best possible experience for you, our readers. We’ve recently rolled out a brand new ‘condensed’ version of the site that is faster loading, easier to scan through, and packs in more great green designs per page! You can check out an example of this new layout right now over at our baby website Inhabitots.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this new design before we roll it out on Inhabitat.com. Please take a second to vote in the poll below, and please feel free to leave a comment if you feel strongly about this change, or have any suggestions. We look forward to hearing from you!

How do you like the new site design?

  • 178 Votes HELL YEAH! - quicker loading & more stories all the way!
  • 133 Votes HELL NAH! - I prefer the old version with larger images

Why is it blue? Keep the green and you win. The blue theme looks like an Argos catalogue.

It’s nice that the site loads faster, however, I browse design blogs by image, not by headline. If an image draws me in, I follow up with the story, and not the other way around.

Based on the larger images in the most recent stories, it seems this design may have been rethought. If that’s not the case, squinting at the teensy story images is both frustrating and painful when there are many other fish in the sea of design blogs available for browsing. When I first came across the tiny images here, I nearly closed the window out of sheer irritation before I even came upon this survey.

I’d suggest attaching two site CSS styles, and allowing users to select which style they’d like to see, either image-dominant or text-dominant.
