This year’s edition of the Eurocucina kitchen showcase at Milan Design Week was painted green by Whirlpool’s GreenKitchen eco-system prototype. Featuring an impressive level of interconnectivity between different appliances, the beautiful and futuristic kitchen creates an efficient workspace that saves energy, resources, and time. While Whirlpool did show the concept at last year’s Salone, this year, we were finally able to see (and touch) a full-flesh prototype!

The sleek design encompasses a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, oven, and more. The intelligent induction cooker avoids dispersion of heat and calculates exactly how much water is needed for cooking, saving up to 20% on energy consumption and 25% of the time usually required for this task. The recycled water from cooking and using the sink is filtered, stored and reused by the dishwasher – a feature that can save up to 70% of water consumption. Solar panels are also incorporated for heating water.
Aside from all of these eco-friendly amenities, a handy-dandy resource assistant located in the countertop monitors consumption, costs, and indicates other information useful for cooking. And it can even program different appliances to automatically do a task, like dishwashing! Hopefully Whirlpool will be moving their eco-systems off the tradeshow floors and right into our own kitchens soon!
