It’s that time of year again – school bells are ringing across the States, and students everywhere are getting ready for a brand new year. To encourage you to green your back-to-school routine we’re offering you a chance to win a brand new PUBLIC Bike or a Voltaic solar backpack! We’re looking for smart ideas that will lower your environmental footprint for the coming academic year, and our grand prize winner will receive their choice of a PUBLIC C1 or PUBLIC V1 bike decked out with a rear rack, a metal basket, and a brass bell (worth a total of $574!), and three runners-up will each win a Voltaic Converter solar-powered backpack (worth $129) — perfect for keeping your electronics charged for a full day of classes. The deadline for all submissions is September 17th at 11:59PM ET – read on to learn how to enter!

1. Follow Inhabitat on Pinterest

2. Create a Pinterest board and pin at least 5-10 items (ideally more if you’re feeling inspired) that you’d like to have to create the greenest possible school year. This could be school supplies, dorm room decor – anything you like that lowers your footprint and helps our environment. Pin at least 5 items from Inhabitat, and if you want to win a PUBLIC Bike or a Voltaic Bag, be sure you pin your favorite bike and bag!

3. Submit your Pin board’s URL to Inhabitat by leaving a comment below. Make sure to use your real email address, since that’s how we’ll be contacting our winners!

4. Our judges panel will review all submissions and select our four favorite boards to receive one grand prize (the bike) and 3 runner up prizes (the solar backpacks)

I’m a college student, an English teacher-to-be, and a part-time illustrator. I live in a city in which riding bike and traveling on public transportation are done only by the minority while most of the people travel on motorcycles and cars. I love bikes, I love riding them. I want to inspire people and make them see that a bike could also get them to places, that riding bike is fun and could be even more fun than riding motorcycle or car. I used to commute to campus and almost everywhere by bike but now it’s hard to do that since I have to share my bike with my sister.

Our household has students of a wide age range – from elementary-aged to a husband beginning his journey toward his phd. LOVE this giveaway and we all have toes, fingers, and eyes crossed (that gorgeous Public bike would come in especially handy, as we ditch the cars and move closer to campus). Thanks for the chancne! http://www.pinterest.com/megan_crose/inhabitat-green-back-to-school/

Thank you for considering me. I just transferred from Santa Monica College into UCLA, and I’ve decided to not use my car and commute instead to campus. I hope you will consider me :)
