To be honest, I can\’t rhyme to save my life. I can tell you, however, that the binders will be taken right away by my daughter – she LOVES to recycle. Well so far I’ve been getting up early and riding my bike to school. I’ve bought all my books digitally (laptop and kindle) and never take notes on paper. I’ve also helped design a green roof that can stand Texas heat that will be put on one of roofs this year.

We were a homeschooling family until this year and my daughter is now in school for the first time – at a Waldorf School.
She and I are both happy AND excited about this opportunity and any eco/green options for school supplies are very much valued and appreciated !
Did you guys know that I have been architect before I became a teacher? I loved it, but there where no jobs around my place. Sad. So I got educatet to teacher, that is a nice job too. Not always easy, but nice. I love it, too. But: I try to stay connected to architecture, too, I am still interested in seeing what’s new+hot there, especially in green architecture. Because I am interested as human beeing and former architect and because I try to use it in my lessons. We have a lot about climate and weather, about endangered species and invasive species in my lessons.

My back-to-school plans have been greatly altered by purchasing a Kindle and a Tablet PC. Both enable me to continue with my studies without using paper products. I will become the epitome\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’ of a \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\”green student\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” by using a Tablet PC powered by a solar powered bag.
Hi, got one more: I have a kind of exchange project at my school, 12 kids from 7th grades and I (and one more teacher I guess) will travel to Lithuania. Our issue is diversity, decreasing biodiversity because of climate change AND diversity in people and cultures.
The umbrella issue is climate change and it’s impact on the baltic sea region.
It would be THAT nice to have that bag for the travel to Lithuania, one more opportunity to spread the WORD……..

Photons don’t really help you learn nor can they help you conserve energy. Unless you capture them, then you can definitely conserve energy… That’s why you should rock a solar backpack. But if you want to learn you still have to go to school. A solar backpack doesn’t really help you there. Sorry.
I ride my bike to school every morning and take notes using my lap top. I have also bought all my folders/binders as recycled products. I even got this really cool pen made from recycled pop bottles. We are also doing a green home in my interior design class so I\’m going to use your newsletter/website to help me with more green ideas for that!

i love knowing that these things exist! They make me feel all fuzzy and excited. I am an art kid with several full time jobs trying to scrape all my little ends together. My partner and I are aiming for some possible school/volunteer work related to public health in potentially remote areas of the US and abroad. These products would help make this goal much lighter on our shoulders.
Not only are these products beautiful but they boost the potential for the sustainable life that my partner and I am slowly building towards. It can be tricky to realize these goals at times.

My husband & I are both going back to school in order to be able to work. We have been looking around & found 2 bicycles that my husband sanded & painted (with eco-friendly paint) & brought them up to par as far as being usable. We bought them in order to not only ride them to school but to use in place of our car as much as humanly possible in order to do our part in the green movement. We also planted & harvested our first garden & canned alot of our crop in order to eat healthier & again, do our part. We recycle EVERYTHING, we have all repurposed furnishings & home decor, & even purchase the majority of our clothes second hand. We are fairly new to the green scene but are trying our best to do absolutely everything we can to set an example for all of our friends,family & any new people we are lucky enough to meet.

to green my back to school days i am actually starting up my schools very 1st ever scince club for my senior project and one of the things we are doing in our club is that i have set up to meet with a local architect and engineer to help us better green our school. i am hoping this club will introduce many students to the wonders of science and that it continues on long after i graduate.

I need this in case I ever travel back in time. Seriously. We’ve all seen the movies, lost and confused teen on the first day of school gets pulled into some sort of “off the beaten track” warphole and then bam 1200s. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to enjoy fighting the dragons, saving the damsel in distress, and introducing these good folks to modern wonders like rock and pizza, but how am I supposed to update my twitter after my cellphone dies? And I’m a scrawny kid, I’m not exactly linebacker material, I’m going to need to oohs and ahhs of Dark Magic and other iTechnologies to help bolster my defenses.
i am getting most of my books from the library…and if not, ebooks. i walk to campus, drink from my stainless steel water bottle, and use the backside of “oops” printouts to take notes on in class.

There, a poem. I’m not good at such things, but I’m sure someone finds it amusing.
My students are participating a competition: they have to make decisions to make a town a better place. They are working as “engenieers” and have to make science experiments to figure out how transformation works and how to clean dirty water and many other things.
After that research work they have to make plans for a better city. They really do learn a lot! We educate future’s people!!! And they love it!
The class who does it best will win some money. I hope they will make it!
My wife is a lower elementary teacher at a Montessori School here in Muskoka and part of her weekly activities include nature walks along the area trails with her kids. They typically leave after lunch and spend the rest of the day out in the forest learning about the world around them. One of those regular lessons is about photosynthesis, the ability for a plant to turn light into energy… it would be doubly beneficial if she could teach her kids about how some of the greatest “Green” ideas we have mimic what nature does.
Besides the solar bag, the binders would be shared by all the kids in the class… It’s one thing to teach kids about recycling but to have lots of examples in the classroom that they can touch and use help nurture their understanding and hopefully help them choose the same types of things when they grow up. Besides the binders look sooo much better than the cheap plastic ones anyway, it’s not a hard decision to make!
Last but not least, the moleskin notebooks would be great for my wife to plan out her weeks and track her kids progress…. and again, another great example of recycled products in the classroom!

I am attending the Rhode Island School of Design to study Industrial Design with a concentration in environmental studies. When the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (Earth Summit) met in 1992, Agenda 21 called for a new aesthetic for sustainable products. Now, more than ever, my fellow designers and I must respond to this call and take on this responsibility! In addition to living the green lifestyle that so many of us have outlined in these posts, I hope to fundamentally alter the societal perception of green products. Using the knowledge gained from my design education, I will capture and hold the interest of a diverse audience. In doing so my fellow designers and I will establish a new reputation for ecodesign. Ecological responsibility is not an alternative. With superior design, green innovation will displace traditional products and methods.

This was nearly limerick almost took a nasty turn against road hogging motorists, but I decided to keep it clean. I’m riding my bike to school every day this semester and did dumpster-dove for my school supplies. It’s insane what college kids will throw out!

Hence, going back to school to study Solar Tech!
I chose a 100% renewable energy provider for my new rented home so that no uranium will be fused and no coal will be burnt for my self-monitored electricity and heating needs.

Hello! My name is Catherine, I am 19 years old, and I just started my sophomore year at a community college. I want this year to be 100% different from any other year because I want to make changes to my lifestyle and to my town. Just so you know a little bit about me, I live three blocks away from the Atlantic Ocean in a tiny town called Bradley Beach, New Jersey. I have lived here all of my life so I have seen for myself what happens when we do not take care of our Earth. I love our planet and I have been involved in Environmental Clubs since I was in 6th grade. My senior year, my friend and I organized a successful “Ride the Cool Bus Day,” urging students and teachers to carpool, take the bus, walk, or ride their bikes. The two of us also farmed oysters to help out the acts of the group NY/NJ Baykeeper, who worked on restoring the Hudson-Raritan Estuary. Without the high school club, I realize that now is time to take my own action and make change by myself.
My mother is a teacher at the local school and a member of the town’s environmental commission, years ago she started up the school’s first ever Environmental Club. As a member, we did beach sweeps involved with Clean Ocean Action, we planted dune grass, and we raised money to donate to foundations that helped save endangered animals. The feeling of helping out has shaped me into who I am today, and who I aspire to be. My mother also fought for the approval of a rain garden to be planted at the school, which she planted and had maintained. Sadly, our family is one of the few households that recycle, we take it so seriously we even remove and collect our bottle caps! I feel if more people in my town were educated about the importance of recycling, they would make the effort. I plan on spreading the word about recycling and reusing in the near future at town meetings.
I am not trying to make this a pity story, and I really thought about leaving this next part out, but it is a key point of how I developed my recent goals. In May, an aneurysm on my mother’s brain ruptured, completely out of the blue, giving my entire family quite the scare. Fortunately and against the odds, she survived and is currently in rehab, kicking ass. Instead of asking me to bring her food, flowers, or anything else to make her more comfortable, she asked me to try and pick up one piece of litter a day. I am tired of doing little things to help and I realize that my time to make a change is right now.
I found this website on my search to learn more about the steps I should be taking towards a greener and healthier lifestyle. What kept me coming back was the information I was learning about: new products, designs, and the art section. Like I said before, my town is ridiculously small and everyone knows each other. Currently, I am a member of the oh-so-elite older kids club, and I feel like I could really set an example of what is considered cool. If I were to win this bag I would bring it everywhere with me and I would be sure to speak its message to anyone within ear shot. Hopefully, I could get the ball moving in the younger generations of my community. I honestly believe that the nautical style of it and its message is perfect for me. I am serious about changing my habits, and this would be an excellent way to start using green items. It would help out tremendously because I would not have to worry about charging my iPod or other gadgets. I also promise to use every last inch of those notebooks and get a 4.0 this semester! Lastly, I plan on writing a letter to the local newspapers urging people to recycle properly. If I want to be taken seriously I feel as though I need to walk the walk and there is no better way to say that than a solar-powered bag.

As an architecture student in a college which enforces students to know about LEED, I became much aware of the environment around me and considered many aspect of being less into consumerism, while as an environmental-political documentary fanatic, I saw many films about water and how people think they have the right to own and sell it, though the native saying has always been that we should treat the earth and all its entities as our mother. something eloquently written about changing my lifestyle to be “greener” as a student including these characteristics: bicycle commuter, vegan, green building policy influencer.
I am being green this school year by making do with used school supplies, people had plenty to give me!
Dear Inhabitat:
The way I’ve improved my school year, and made it more “green” is through these few steps:
1. I bike to school and back every day (I’ve grown to love the Williamsburg Bridge)
2. I’ve used all of my old notebook pages that I haven’t used to make new notebooks (that I made) for this year
3. I’ve been making all of my food at home so that I don’t buy food packaged in unnecessary packaging that will only be thrown away just for my convenience.
4. I carry my KleanKanteen with me everywhere
5. I work for a company that is promoting new socially innovative ways to improve our impact on the environment (and on ourselves)(yoxi.tv)
6. This isn’t necessarily green, but I feel it’s relevant- I’m a Graphic Design student at the School of Visual Arts, and for my thesis this year I’m focusing on new ways in which we can reconnect with one another in this new digital age. I feel that feeling and expressing compassion towards one another and allowing ourselves to connect through the most simple acts of humanity are integral to the improvement of society. And so I’m attempting to inspire people to want to connect humanly, and share with one another so that we feel the need to take care of ourselves, each other and, in turn, our environments.
7. I’ve been vegan for a year and a half now, so I’m not promoting any factory farming byproducts, such as ridiculous amount of green house gasses
8. I haven’t bought a single item of clothing since May, so that I don’t promote any mass production in factories or cheap labor or international trade (that also uses tonnnsssss of fuel)
9. I only buy organic, and if I can make it instead of buy it, I will
10. I plan on starting a window farm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkCuPrsPn_I) but I have to convince my roommate first
and I’m sure there’s more, but that’s it for now.

When we got back to school
I said there was something that needed to be done no matter what
And yes, it was a rule,
But it’s not something that will make you have a fuss:
We just have to love our land!
Don’t clutter it up with water bottles and wrappers.
And also lend a hand.
This earth matters.
We need to take re-usable bottles.
Just really get in the loop.
Be a role model.
Pick up trash, maybe even in a group!
But just because the school year is here
And you think that’s a little scary,
Just proves summer being over isn’t that severe
Because it’s just another season to be able to pick up the recylcing act, and that alone will carry.
Being an online design student at AAU makes me a lovely shade of green. There are minimal carbon emmissions emitted when I log on my PC. However, I still have my art supplies that needed toting around. A solar backpack would come in handy when I sketch outside while I soak up my vitamin D.
it’s nice to not have to be the kid with drab, tan, colorless notepads and binders. this is Eco-pezaz
School life is the best life in whole life. Everyone enjoy school life because of class bunk, enjoyment,eat lunch before recess,etc.
Now i have 2 more years for enjoyment because than after i will be in collage. as i have only 2 years from now so i want to do all the enjoyment in class which i have never done like throwing papes on the teachers. I want the ecofriendly things because i have never use ecofriendly item for the school purpose, i hope it will be mine…..
Well actually I’m done with traditional school, now I work with a rule(r).
I love the Ecosystem books, When I’m working in nooks.
I can carry stuff and charge my phone with the bag, so I’m really hoping you’ll send me this swag.
I’ll share with my wife who keeps swiping my Ecosystem, and my daughter who is a traditional student.
Know it doesn’t rhyme but I ran out of inspiration.
