Wind and Solar Powered Eco Community Unveiled in Brazil

Brazil recently unveiled one of its first eco communities equipped with wind and solar energy [5]! A total of 58 houses in a village on the coast of the country have been built on the concept of zero waste — the recyclables are baled and resold, organic waste will be transformed into fertilizer, and cooking oil will be processed into biodiesel. Two mini wind turbines [6] and photovoltaic panels on the rooftops will provide 40% of the homes’ energy. A tank with 350,000 liters of rainwater can store enough H2O for three weeks. The condos offer 15 square meters of green area per inhabitant, and feature a garden filled with edible plants.
