Brazil recently unveiled one of its first eco communities equipped with wind and solar energy ! A total of 58 houses in a village on the coast of the country have been built on the concept of zero waste — the recyclables are baled and resold, organic waste will be transformed into fertilizer, and cooking oil will be processed into biodiesel. Two mini wind turbines and photovoltaic panels on the rooftops will provide 40% of the homes’ energy. A tank with 350,000 liters of rainwater can store enough H2O for three weeks. The condos offer 15 square meters of green area per inhabitant, and feature a garden filled with edible plants.
