Ahoy! Sou Fujimoto Architects and Manal Rachdi OXO Architects just unveiled plans for ship-like glass residential development for a city block in Paris. The proposal envisions a large glass structure topped with a thousand trees dominating the Pershing area of the French capital.
The structure is meant to span the city’s Boulevard Périphérique and house flats and social housing, complemented with a community center, kindergarten and play areas. An entire forest rests on a network of triangular concrete slabs. Conceived as an inhabited natural ecosystem, the structure aims to introduce biodiversity to a highly urbanized neighborhood of Paris.
Over 800 entries for 23 sites were received and the competition jury chose 75 finalists before the winners were announced a few days ago. Among other finalists were OMA associated with Gecina, Ferrier / Chartier Dalix associated with BNP Paribas, and the team of 3xn / Mars associated with Unibail / Bouygues Immobilier.
