Minimalist wood block + high-tech LEDs = one fabulous combination. We love the simplicity of this Japanese clock design: when the clock is turned off it resembles little more than a wood block. When turned on, the LED numbers shine through the wood, transforming the simple block into a seventies-style alarm clock (oversized numbers and all).

Thats a wicked design. $469 for a clock is not happening though…
It is a great idea but waaaaay to expensive.
The design is also as bad as it can get. I wouldn’t call a wooden block with standard LED numbers a “wicked” design. They made it worse with the ugly back. The wood is not matching the rest of the block, black screws, standard mini-switches that can be seen and … a power jack? At least they have could made the back match the texture of the block. Switches could go under a removable plate that also houses space for batteries. This way it would really look like a block.
These clocks could be made for 20$. Well, 449$ for the idea… never
Agree, maybe if it had an raster display and some cool animation/font or something.
