Did you know that the world’s largest rooftop farm is located in NYC? That’s right, called the Brooklyn Grange, the 40,000 square foot elevated garden is located on top of a six-story warehouse, and grows everything from tomatoes to peppers to fennel to salad greens and much, much more. The grange recently launched their second growing season and we’re thinking it will be even more successful than the last. Read on for more info and pics of the verdant rooftop farm.

Amazing! I want to see the information about composting with this project. Is that possible with the obvious weight issues? It’s the ultimate raised bed garden,;-)

I think something like this would do well in Washington D.C. where there are a lot of big buildings and no highrises in site. Or Baltimore with lots of buildings and few skyscrapers. Which means no sundial effect on the roof from tall buildings. I too am confused as to weight issues. A lot of buildings do not have strong roof’s. What can be grown up there and with how much soil does it take. I like the idea of robots sorting and monitoring and picking some of the stuff. What about greenhouses so we can grow twice per season.

Should be called the world’s largest rooftop garden… we don’t call them rooftop farms because farming means to exploit the land. Gardening grows together.
