Gallery: World’s Largest Wind Farm Will Be Built in Oregon


The US Department of Energy has approved the partial guarantee for a $1.3 billion loan to support the construction of the world’s largest wind farm, located in eastern Oregon. Known as the Caithness Energy LLC’s Shepherds Flat Wind Project, the renewable energy initiative will give way to a massive 845-megawatt wind-powered energy generating facility located immediately south of the Columbia River, built on approximately 32,000 acres in Gilliam and Morrow counties.

    Eveybody is makes claims as to the world largest or the largest in any specific country. How are they counting the size? By how many turbines? or what their “power plate” says? This field is growing daily,and it depends on who is paying for the writing as to whom is the largest. Personally as far as I am concerned this is great. For as long as the wind energy industry has been stalled by naysayers I say go for it. We are not going to get off fossil fuel with talk.

    The question is: what is Inhabitat’s world?

    Just a tiny piece of the real world i guess. This is far away form the world’s largest windfarm. You can’t be serious about that.

    Here is a windfarm just a little bit bigger with 10 GW
