WUD: Chic Retro Radios Made From Sustainably Harvested Wood
We love these beautiful retro-chic speakers made from wood harvested sustainably from forests in the southern region of Chilean Patagonia. Designed by Santiago-based Grupo Vibra, they recreate the nostalgic feel of retro wooden radios while still looking minimalist and modern. Playfully named WUD, the line features three eco-friendly models that are perfect for plugging into your iPod or computer.
WUD’s new limited edition products, WUD AM and WUD NITE, feature the creamy orange/yellow color of Nothofagus dombeyi, also known as Coihue, which is a native Chilean tree. WUD loudspeakers follow the same basic principle as any other speaker — a hollow body amplifies the sound coming out of your iPod or computer, and the only energy needed is provided by the battery of the plugged-in device.
Since their start in 2004, Grupo Vibra has been exploring new sound experiences and exhibiting their sustainable designs around the world. They attended the DesignBoom Mart within the Stockholm Furniture Fair last February, the Chilean Design Biennale, and most recently the Chilean version the Lollapalooza music festival.
