Natural rattan is making a comeback in design circles, but unfortunately, conventional forestry practices can damage tropical forests when the rattan is harvested. WWF is currently working with Swedish designers and Mekong-based companies to develop sustainably produced rattan products that are suitable for the international market. A collection of their rattan home accessories is currently being showcased this week at the international design fair Ambiente in Frankfurt.

That’s not a man, it’s a pod-person. Yeah, how much is the cost of simply shipping it to my house or other houses one at a time. A mass produced piece of furniture consumes less energy than their hand made equivalent. And the ease of shipping to you consumes less fuel. Driving out to one store to pick up one oversized chair is not exactly green thinking. I’m more for consumer freedom. If you want the chair, fine.
I don’t see what’s so sustainable about a chair which is as egregiously materially inefficient as that one…
