Prolific starchitects Zaha Hadid and Norman Foster have been picked to jointly design two of three new resorts in what is being referred to as the ‘Hawaii of China.’ Slated to be built in the Chinese cities of Nanjing, Wuhan and Haikou, the designs will be part of a massive new development for the luxury hotel chain, Jumeirah Group.

Hadid‘s proposal for the project is the 250-room Jumeirah Nanjing Hotel, which will occupy two twin curving towers and sit adjacent to a third low-rise structure. Located in the Hexi business district, the complex will house a conference center, a fitness area, an indoor swimming pool and a formal ballroom. The Zaha Hadid design is scheduled for completion in 2016.

Foster + Partners are slated to design the Jumeirah Wuhan, a mixed-use complex located outside the Hankou business district. The complex will house a 200-room luxury hotel as well as office space, retail shops and apartments. Foster’s design is scheduled for completion in 2020.

As part of the Hawaii of China development, there will also be a third resort, Jumeirah Haikou, which will offer guests a choice of staying in the 140-room hotel or one of the 60 private villas on a small, private island in the Hainan Province.
