1 Undershaft will be the tallest building in London’s financial district

The financial district of London is about to get a new tallest building. Designed by <a href="http://www.ericparryarchitects.co.uk/">Eric Parry Architects</a>, 1 Undershaft will be the second tallest building in all of London, second only to <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/the-shard/">The Shard</a>. Once completed, the 73-story structure will house 90,000 square meters of space, along with a public square at ground level and a breathtaking view - the highest fee-free viewing gallery in London - on the top level.

The project was commissioned by Singapore-based property developers Aroland Holdings and will sit in the middle of a cluster of skyscrapers in the financial district.

In the basement, 1,800 square meters of restaurants and shops will keep the building bustling 7 days a week - a nice change from the usual business building, which is abandoned on the weekends.

A pair of criss-crossing escalators will further emphasize the diamond pattern of the building on the ground level.
