Slavery seems like a barbaric and ancient practice, but a new map shows that it’s alive and well all over the world. A new map created by Australia’s Walk Free Foundation shows that more than 29 million people across the globe live in modern-day slavery conditions. The Global Slavery Index which covers 612 countries, built on statistics provided by the International Labour Organisation, shows that nearly 70 percent of the world’s slaves reside in roughly 10 countries, many of them in Asia. Unfortunately many of those forced into labor for little to no pay are women and children.
