From the onset of the project, the Brooklyn-based architects focused on using space saving techniques wherever possible. The design called for an open layout with few interior walls so that multi-functional features could be used depending on the need.

To create a flexible design, a customized wall of cabinetry pulls triple duty as storage, furniture, and architecture. The wall actually pivots open to create a bedroom that is spacious and comfortable, and well-lit thanks to a window in the wall.
The exterior wall space around the living space is used as a large dressing area with closets on either side. When there is no need for the extra bedroom, the wall is closed to make space for a private dining area that can fit up to 10 guests at an expanding table.
Although the pivot wall is at the heart of the flexible design, the architects used several other hidden storage features throughout the studio. Built-in shelving was installed inside the entrance closet and even the kitchen backsplash lifts open to reveal more storage space.
