LEGO is described in the project as “a game for everyone.” As we’ve seen in other instances, in addition to this exhibit, the block is being used as an interesting medium for professionals to explore new ideas — whether they work in creative fields or the sciences.
The project is part of a proposed three-year initiative led by VisionLab coordinator Alberto Pizzati Caiani. The aim is to investigate how the female perspective of individual and joint efforts affect innovation and originality.
Looking past the colorful surfaces and inherent playfulness of the LEGO bricks, the works reference topics such as nature, fairytales, feminism, and gender stereotypes. There is a sense of built-in provocation in the project with the name ‘PinkVision’, as well as the suggestion of a separation between female and male innovation and originality.
The egg-shaped construction ‘L’EGO Construens’ by architect Giovanna Cornelio is an interesting example of mixed references to topics such as birth, the perfection of nature, and the human ego. Deep issues mixed with irony and humor are revealed when going deeper into the textual descriptions of the work with expressions such as ‘an ideal construction in an ideal city’ and a quote from Bruno Munari: ‘The egg has a perfect form even though it comes out from a butt’.
