Thousands of refugees arrive daily to the Greek Island of Lesbos, and many leave brightly colored reminders of their treacherous journey on the shores: neon-orange life jackets. Rather than let those jackets go to waste, one group of United Nations volunteers have begun refashioning the vests into insulated mattresses. The jackets are strung together in an interlocking design and provide a comfortable, insulated, and fire-retardant bed that will be distributed at the Moria refugee registration center.
