American Apparel CEO Dov Charney apparently misread his email. The Los Angeles-based apparel company will not be making official Olympic team uniforms for Russia, but has instead been asked to create “Russian-themed merchandise” for the event. Charney had originally told the New York Post, “It’s not just for the uniforms—it’s also the merchandise.” Charney shook off the misunderstanding. The American Apparel error comes shortly after Ralph Lauren was exposed for making American team uniforms in China, prompting 59 members from the U.S. House of Representatives to push for the Team USA Made in America Act to ensure all further uniforms are made in the U.S.
