My Micro NY apartments

Located at 335 E 27th Street in Kips Bay, the $17 million development will have a total of 55 studios ranging from 250 to 370 square feet. Out of the 55 apartments, 22 will be affordable units that start at $950 a month, depending on the resident’s income. The remaining 33 units will rent for upwards of $3,000 per month.

According to the architects, the project’s compact design was focused on providing residents with high liveability features such as convertible furniture and multi-use rooms. Additionally, the compact apartments’ sizes are further enhanced by high ceilings and sweet juliet balconies. Residents will have access to a gym on the ground floor, along with a small lounge, community room, roof terrace, bicycle storage, and a small shared garden space.

The development is somewhat of a pilot project for the city, which previously did not allow entire buildings made up of micro-units. Mayor Bloomberg, working with the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development, waived certain zoning regulations so that the project could be developed and perhaps used as a future model for affordable housing for the city.

As of September 1st, the apartments are accepting rental applications at NY Housing Connect.
