- Savannah Project-Price Street ProjectsArtist and designer Julio Garcia recently built his own recycled shipping container home in Savannah, Georgia. The printmaker took two 40 ft containers and set them apart with a shed roof and clerestory windows that fill the modest space with loads of daylight. Wood and a lot of bright interior furnishings make the one-bedroom home a perfect retreat for an artist.1

- Savannah Project-Price Street ProjectsBuilt from two-40 ft shipping containers, the home is about 800 sq ft and features one bedroom, bathroom, a long open kitchen and an open floor living space.3
- Savannah Project-Price Street ProjectsThe containers offset from one another are placed on top of a foundation of steel I-beams resting on concrete piers. The containers are also separated by a six foot wide wood-framed addition with a taller shed roof.4
- Savannah Project-Price Street ProjectsThe interior walls of the containers were cut out and new steel beams support the roof and clerestory windows.5
- Savannah Project-Price Street ProjectsInside, the walls and ceiling are painted bright white to bounce light into the room. A white kitchen placed on the back wall acts like an art gallery and the rest of the home is open and spacious.6
- Savannah Project-Price Street ProjectsNext to the kitchen is the bathroom and beyond that is the only bedroom tucked into one of the shipping container ends. Another room could easily be created at the opposite end by adding a wall if Garcia ever wanted.7
