Queens’s Socrates Sculpture Park is going to be blooming with one very large flower tower this summer and you can join in on the fun! Artist Agnes Denes will be installing her gorgeous, 30-foot-tall Living Pyramid design at the Long Island City sculpture garden in April. The colorful pyramid will be seeded by local volunteers and will hopefully flourish with various plants and wildflowers come summertime.
Denes is well known for her massive art installations such as Wheatfield — A Confrontation, where she planted a field of golden wheat on two acres of landfill space in lower Manhattan. Now she’s heading back to New York with her latest work Living Pyramid which, according to the artist, represents human struggle.
“What [pyramids] all convey is the human drama, our hopes and dreams against great odds,” Denes said in a press release. “Transformed into blossoms, the pyramid renews itself as evolution does to our species.”

The Living Pyramid installation will be built in April and volunteers will be invited to plant seeds on the structure on May 17th. The organizers estimate that the pyramid will be abloom with flowers and greenery by June and will be on display until late August.
