In the last couple of years the North West Walls street art project has been transforming the Rock Werchter music festival in Werchter, Belgium, into a multifaceted experience dominated by large installations designed by world renowned street artists. This year, curator Arne Quinze brought in six new artists to adorn shipping containers surrounding the site with illustrations and art that gives the audience a taste of the world of street art.
Belgian conceptual artist Arne Quinze, known for his controversial public art installations, has brought together a group of six international artists – Gamma Acosta, Fintan Magee , SmugOne, Pixel Pancho, Nychos and Lula Goce – for this year’s North West Walls street art project. The outdoor exhibition will include different styles, from very classical graffiti involving compositions of letters, to a more surrealist, modern approach, involving markers, brushes, stencils, spatial elements, etc.
These huge creations set a lively backdrop for the festival events and bring the world of street art closer to festival goers. The towering boxes are turned into canvases that get repainted every year, just before the start of the music festival.
