Check out Brooklyn Butcher Blocks’ cool wooden beer mugs

With all of the cheese and charcuterie we Brooklynites ingest, it only makes sense that we should have our own Brooklyn-made butcher blocks and cheeseboards to prep and serve it on too. Brooklyn Butcher Blocks makes rich, heirloom-quality cutting boards, butcher blocks, tabletops and other surfaces from wood grown in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio, and takes great care in reusing or composting cutoffs. If you're in the market for some beautiful handmade wooden pieces, be sure to check them out at BKLYN Designs 2015 this weekend.

Founded by woodworker Nils Wessell, Brooklyn Butcher Blocks focuses on designs that emphasize simplicity, functionality and elegance. Wessell handcrafts everything from cutting boards with iPad rests to wooden mugs to custom countertops in his Brooklyn workshop. He also offers wooden surface repairing and resurfacing services.

Sustainability plays a big role in Wessell's operation. He sources his wood from Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio and uses waterproof, FDA-approved food-safe glue made in Ohio. He also composts his wood scraps at Build It Green's BIGNYC composting project in Queens, which he estimates saves approximately 600 gallons every two weeks from ending up in NYC's waste stream.
