Pickett Furniture showcases playful heirloom furniture at BKLYN Designs

Inhabitat favorite Jeremy Pickett of Pickett Furniture returned to BKLYN Designs 2015 showcasing stunning new furniture. His Red Hook, Brooklyn-based design studio is known for brilliantly crafting heirloom-quality furniture and textiles using materials sourced as locally as Staten Island and as far away as Finland. Each piece is the result of Jeremy's time spent picking through vintage shops for reclaimed textiles, or walking through mills to convert old trees into a new console.

Both a meticulous craftsman and an environmentalist, Pickett is committed to using environmentally thoughtful materials to build exquisite products that last. His workshop has churned out everything from tripod bicycle-inspired lamps topped with bamboo veneer shades, to his signature Forbannelse Chair built from a single slab of American black walnut.

Jeremy’s secret is the use of hand-cut, Japanese-style joinery to handcraft pieces without the need for complicated metal fasteners or screws. And if you’re ever worried about colors, glues or chemical-laden furniture spray wreaking havoc on your allergies or your health, don’t. Heavier pieces are constructed using low volatile organic compound (VOCs) finishing products, true to the mission of the brand. Be sure to add the upcoming BKLYN Designs showcase to your weekend plans to see Jeremy in action.
