Upcycled Six-Pack Ring “189 Allium Pendant Light” by
Bao-Khang Luu's "189 Allium" pendant lamp draws its inspiration from the plant world. Twenty-two inches in diameter and 18" high, it uses 189 six-pack rings to create an intricate lace-like shade. This lightweight design also collapses to a height of 4 inches, allowing for less packaging during transportation. Luu developed a special technique for over a year and a half for hand weaving the plastic six-pack rings onto metal lamp supports. The strength of the materials eliminates the need for any adhesives during the lamp's assembly. At the end of its life cycle, each "189 Allium" lamp can be easily dismantled for further upcycling or recycling. His design is topped off with UL bulb hardware and the Philips Ambient LED bulb, making it both an energy efficient design, as well as a fantastic way to repurpose waste.
