The Bronx Box replaced an older bungalow home on the waterfront of the Eastchester Bay. With views of the water and the Throgs Neck Bridge, the two story, 1,816 sq ft home sits on a narrow lot with set-back, height and flood plane requirements. The resulting house, designed by Resolution: 4 Architecture, has a compact footprint with off-street parking, a small lawn, lots of outdoor deck space and tons of storage. The home is also raised up off the ground to contend with future flooding and features an expansive rooftop deck with planters for flowers and gardening.

The residence was constructed from two modules for the lower living space and upper bedroom area. Storage was added on the side with the addition of ‘saddle bag’ modules, and a two-story staircase module was added to the back. The downstairs features a linear organization of utilities and laundry, with an open kitchen and living room that leads out onto the deck. The upstairs has two bedrooms and two bathrooms with stairs up to the rooftop deck. Skylights integrated into the rooftop deck provide lighting for the bathrooms. The exterior is clad in low-maintenance materials like cement panels, metal roofing, cedar siding and ipe wood decking. Inside, the home features bamboo and slate flooring, maple cabinets, and Caeserstone countertops.
